Presented by Rosa Sottile of Big Fork Theatre (Brisbane/Meanjin) as part of the Big Fork Comedy Festival 2025.

Characters are the best part of sketch comedy - and characters are a great way to perform solo sketch! But how do you get started - what makes a character memorable? What makes their jokes work? How do you keep the momentum when it’s just you on stage? This workshop focuses on giving hands-on experience with idea generation from various angles, character creation, and, by the end, you will have a character monologue ready for the stage.

Workshop Length: 3 hours
Recommended experience level: No previous experience required
Participants need to know: Participants will create a character in class.

Meet Rosa Sottile (she/her)
Rosa has been writing and performing sketch comedy for 10 years and teaches sketch regularly. Rosa produces Big Fork Theatre’s monthly sketch show, Get It* Inya, and is the director of SketchFest. She loves writing and performing weird and wonderful characters to explore the bizarre, uncomfortable, and heart-warming parts of life.
