Just be Funny! (improv workshop)

  • Big Fork Theatre 252 Saint Pauls Terrace Fortitude Valley, QLD, 4000 Australia (map)

Approaching improv with one goal in mind - COMEDY!

JUST BE FUNNY

All improvisers have heard the same old spiel at some point or another – “you don’t have to be funny” or “don’t force funny” or “comedy isn’t the goal” or “comedy is achieved when art fails” blah blah blah. Well f%*k that noise! What if we approached improv with one goal in mind – COMEDY!

This workshop gives improvisers the chance to break out of their shell and do improv with a purely comedy driven approach.

It’s about:

  • Getting through the boring stuff quickly and playing with the gold

  • Understanding what’s funny in the scene and playing the game

  • Maximising your laughs while still being true to the scene

  • Being a comedy force as a support player

  • Being playful with your scene partner

  • Having fun

This workshop is perfect for newer and experienced improvisers, basically anyone looking to increase their laugh-o-meter during improv scenes.

Join Chris Martin for this 3 hour workshop that focuses on useful techniques to mine all the comedy gold out of your improv scenes.

Chris is a Brisbane based stand-up, sketch and improv comedian. He co-founded Big Fork Theatre in 2015 and was a director of the theatre until 2025. Chris is an ensemble cast member of Raised By Wolves and Poop Joggers. He performs, writes and produces the sketch comedy juggernaut Date Night alongside his partner Taylor Edwards. Chris has performed at every major comedy festival around Australia. He loves comedy. He hates dramatic improv.
