Presented by Luke Rimmelzwaan of Improv Queensland (Brisbane/Meanjin) as part of the Big Fork Comedy Festival 2025.

In this workshop, we’ll focus on making bold, playful character choices that ignite creativity and bring energy to every scene. By taking strong attitudes and being open and responsive, we’ll discover how spontaneity and collaboration can lead to surprising, delightful moments with our scene partners. We will play with fresh attitudes and perspectives to unlock unique, never-before-seen interactions on stage. This is a chance to break out of habits, take risks, and embrace the unexpected. Whether you want to deepen your characters or simply have more fun in your scenes, this workshop is about discovery, connection, and joyful play.

Workshop Length: 3 hours
Recommended experience level: Intermediate (1-3 years experience)
Participants need to know: There will be some personal coaching in scenes.

Meet Luke Rimmelzwaan (he/him)
Luke is a 20-year improv veteran and founder of Improv QLD. He’s performed and taught globally, creating innovative shows like Hooking Up and Tales from the Old Country. Luke also has directed opera, musicals, and film, and has performed in theatre classics and circus.
