A Spoken Word Artist performing at a comedy lounge?

Get ready for an art form so new that a Google search will only provide a single article from a random academic arts journal in Vienna.

An art form so new that the above mentioned artist only knows one other artist that performs it.

We heard you like Standup Comedy, we hope you like Spoken Word Poetry, now get ready for Standup Poetry!

Alexi Edwards is a poet and spoken word performer from Boorloo (Perth), now based in Meanjin (Brisbane). Her work explores mental health, queer identity, and politics through sharp social critique and narrative lyricism. Drawing on the blunt veracity of Catullus, the storytelling tradition of Banjo Paterson, and a touch of Edgar Allan Poe's theatricality, her poetry bridges page and stage while somehow managing to give her audience a good laugh. Alexi self-published her debut poetry book and spoken word album which launched on 4 April and is available both in-person and online via her Ko-Fi shop.

'I Am Not Okay - Live' is the next evolution of the debut album, turning the album into a full length stage experience. 'I Am Not Okay - Live' combines elements of traditional spoken word poetry with standup comedy to create a unique hybrid experience that feels right at home in a theatre, poetry bar, or comedy lounge — taking audiences on Alexi's ten year journey from her lowest to genuinely being okay over an emotional yet hilarious hour.
